The world energy demand increases continuously as the world population increases and as we become more and more dependent on power hungry appliances and devices. However, most of the power we need is supplied by fossil fuels even though they are quite harmful to the environment, and they are estimated to be depleted in the near future. On the other hand, energy derived from renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass etc.) is a clean and sustainable way of energy generation, and it is the only way to maintain the limited resources of the earth. Hence, the utilization of new sources and technologies in the production and conversion of energy instead of conventional methods is a very important research field.

The thesis-based two-year Energy Systems Engineering (ESEN) MSc Degree program of İstanbul Bilgi University has been designed to prepare students for a graduate-level specialization in energy systems engineering, namely conventional and sustainable energy systems with their economic and environmental impacts. The choice of a specific area is achieved through the selection of elective courses.

The broad objective of the ESEN, MSc program is to familiarize students with the basic technologies and methods that are needed to develop specialization on energy systems with their economics and environmental impacts. The program offers a wide range of courses that aim at building a solid theoretical foundation as well as providing a set of practical experiences in order to design and realize the most advanced solutions. The program further aims at developing skills in analytical thinking, problem solving, and programming of general energy concept.

Graduates of this master program are expected to build their career on consulting or research and development of the energy systems in various markets. They can either work in private companies or continue as a researcher.
